Purpose

The University of Mississippi Judicial Council, the highest tribunal of the university, consists of a convener, a student judicial chair, 10 students (one of whom will serve as assistant student chair), five faculty and five staff members.  The assistant dean of students for judicial affairs (chief judicial officer) serves as the convener of the council as well as its adviser.

The position of student judicial chair is elected by the student body.  The 10 remaining student members are selected by the ASB.  The 10 students selected elect the assistant student chair.  The five faculty members are selected by the Faculty Senate and the five staff members by the Staff Council.

The University Judicial Council hears and decides cases involving alleged individual or organizational violations of university policy and any other case assigned to it by the university’s chief judicial officer.  Decisions of the University Judicial Council are final, subject to appeal.
